Embracing His Syn by A.E. Via

3.0

Good story, fun characters...needs better editing

I enjoyed this second book in the series. What’s not to like about more God and Day and the introduction of more great characters?

The beginning is a great intro though of course readers of book one will figure out what is happening. The introduction of Syn is well done and his character is quickly integrated as the squad’s third in command.

The crime part of the story is a bit vague with some big plot holes, especially as it ties into the other criminal/suspense part of the story. Connections aren’t explained and it doesn’t make a lot of sense. The climatic scene is telegraphed pretty loudly and also is a plot hole considering what has come before. How it occurs is never explained and needed to be. How the bad guys from one crime hooked up with the bad guys from the other crime? Never explained and needed to be. Additionally, as in book one, there are lots of proofreading issues and that is seriously annoying. The author has some good ideas but really needs better editing and/or beta readers to smooth things out. It takes away from what could have been a much tighter book.

I like the characters enough that I’ll read the next book but if there’s no improvement I’m not sure I can justify paying the price for a book the author doesn’t take seriously enough to engage better services.
