Themes or characters that resonated with me: The nature of love's destructive potential was relatable. Heathcliff was a fascinating character. Full of emotions and various motivations, it was interesting to see how all his plans manifested.
Emotions, thoughts, or memories it brought up in me: It was hard to root for any of the characters really, but that is not important to me in what makes a good book. I think the most deserving of a happy ending is Hareton. He never really did anyone any harm, so that was a nice ending.
Opinion about the author or writing style: I enjoyed the sort of creepy elements. Like the kid at the end saying he saw Catherine and Heathcliff, or the dream when the ghostly hand grasps the dreamer. I think it was Lockwood's dream. My only issue was with Joseph's difficult to decipher dialogue.
Favorite Passage:
"I've no more business to marry Edgar Linton than I have to be in Heaven; and if the wicked man in there had not brought Heathcliff so low, I shouldn't have thought of it. It would degrade me to marry Heathcliff, now; so he shall never know how I love him; and that, not because he's handsome, but because he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same, and Linton's is as different as a moonbeam from lightning, or frost from fire."
