this book basically uses a disability to punish the male character for cheating on his wife and it really REALLY wants you to think that the ableist behaviour from literally every character in this book is justified because our main character is a shitty person. i read this because it was pitched as an amazing horror/thriller that's apparently getting huge recognition and being compared to stephen king etc., but i truly don't understand how this can be classified as horror. even saying it's a thriller feels a bit like a stretch. it's literally just a story about a man being trash and terrible things happening to him as the author yells "see, see??? this is what happens when you cheat on your wife!!! you will be paralysed and unable to get help when other people try to hurt you!!" like... there's literally no other point to this, no deeper meaning, no good insight into the life of a disabled person, it's just 100 and something pages of a shitty person being tortured.
