5/5. Oh my god. I loved this book SO much.

I decided to be extra and drive an hour to the beach to read this book. I ended up finishing it in 2 days (I went home in that time don’t worry) which is literally unheard of from me. I’m the slowest reader ever because my focus is TERRIBLE but I just couldn’t this one down!

I immediately related to the main character from the very first page and I couldn’t help but love Gus from his first line, despite him being a tad arrogant.

This book is adorable, funny, spicy, but also deep and even sad. We see the characters dealing with grief, conflicting feelings, and emotional trauma, all difficult topics that were very carefully handled by Emily Henry.

I didn’t cry. I think the sadness factor of this book definitely says a lot about the relationship you have with your father. Mine is, at the moment, still intact. If that’s not the case for you, you may need to stock up on some tissues before reading this.

This book gets spicy, but it’s not at all smut. Sometimes when certain scenes in books get too explicit, I tend to feel uncomfortable or just not at all into it because of the use of certain (wink) words, but Beach Read had that perfect balance. It was spicy but mostly fade to black and with a lot of buildup, enough to make me blush without triggering my fright of flight.

I was told this would be enemies to lovers but that’s not the case! It’s definitely rivals to lovers (which I think I may like even more now).

Please read this book to soak in these last days of summer! Going all the way to the beach is optional but recommended.
