Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
5.0
What a treat of a novel. Somehow, while easy and enjoyable to read, we’re told a story about immigration, multiple generations of a Greek-American family, the modern history of Detroit, some very fictional historical fiction, and all of the complications and intricacies that one has to deal with chromosomal gender issues and intersexuality. It’s an incredibly well rounded story, never heavy handed while driving home important themes. I think everyone and their mother has already read this, and I’m late to the game, but I highly recommend reading Middlesex.
