The Magic Toyshop
by Angela Carter
Before reading The Magic Toyshop, I had read Heroes & Villains by Angela Carter (which I did not care for) and the short-story collection The Bloody Chamber (which I liked), so going into this one I was a little bit apprehensive; I felt it might be hit or miss. The first chapter I had to work through, but after that I was completely hooked.
I loved the descriptions of the toyshop and the toys in it. The story is peculiar, following a dark fairy-tale logic, and that I loved, too.
