Blood & Brimstone by John F.D. Taff

5.0

John F. D. Taff "The King of Pain" returns to The Fearing series with Blood and Brimstone, an interlude about Tim Jacoby and his rise during the end times. This book takes place primarily between books two and three although, you can certainly read it anytime. I recommend you start this after reading book two or after you've read book four. In The Fearing: Blood and Brimstone, readers get all the details about the factors that motivated the antagonist and how he came to be the character we come to hate in the last two books of the original four-part series. Sometimes when you read a story from the perspective of the villian you get some insight into why they do the awful things they come to do. From what I gathered about Tim Jacoby, he was simply the worst because that was his personality. He is a murderer, selfish, heinous, degrades woman, you name it... BUT in Blood and Brimstone you get to find out what flipped the switch, so-to-speak. The characters in The Fearing series saw some terrifying things but NOTHING like what Tim Jacoby comes across in this story. John Taff pushed the limits and it is utterly delightful. Visceral, nightmarish, and horrific. This is what horror is all about.

I can talk all day about my love for this fantastic series and John Taff but I need to give props to Matt Corley at Saturday Morning Scenarios. This guy put together an astonishingly aesthetic book. The book is formatted beautifully making this an easy read. There is artwork available throughout the book that made for an incredible reading experience especially for a book like this. I found the art compliments Taff's writing so well because he crafts such vivid and atmospheric tales. I really enjoyed reading about some utterly terrifying scenes and then getting to actually see the horrifying images. I tip my hat to Matt Corley. Sir, nobody could've done a better job and I think this book will have an impact on the #HorrorCommunity.

I recommend this book to everyone and their dog. Yes, this is a horror book and fans of the genre are going to relish in Taff's amazing ability to conjure your deepest fears and bring them to life. BUT I truly believe that this series is a great way to introduce reader's to the genre. This book is for anyone and everyone. I don't want to limit my recommendation to just horror fans because I think that would be a serious injustice to all readers. Come, venture into our dark corner of the library and indulge yourself in this imaginative dystopian series about a world where your fears become reality.
