Dawn by Octavia E. Butler
What an incredible novel.
I honestly did not expect to like it. Aliens and spaceships and sci-fi in general are not my thing. The only reason I picked it up is because the library book club was reading it. But then once I started, the story and the writing pulled me in right away.
This is a story of a human race getting a second chance to start again. But it comes and incredible price of losing not only their autonomy but being forced to undergo gene modification by their alien rescuers.
There's a lot about human nature here and whether or not humans can or should be redeemed.
Highly recommend.
