I definitely liked this volume more than the last one, though I can't say I'm in love with the series or characters yet. I still don't get why the teacher hates her so much, or why all the girls do (other than standard pretty-girl jealousy).

The good thing, though, is we're getting to see Maria make an effort and start to care, not just about her friends, but about how to relate to others as well. Classifying Hana as her frenemy was a big step. I'm not sure how productive a relationship is when you agree to mutually dislike each other, but at least Maria made her talk about it.

I love how Shin, Yusuke, and Tomoyo are firmly siding with Maria now, and have become a little crew she can depend on. Even though Yusuke might frustrate her sometimes, she's getting to see the advantages to having someone passionately defend you. And Shin was so adorable with this rooftop hugging. He couldn't think of anything else, but it ended up working really well. And the falling-in-love conversation definitely makes me think things are headed in that direction, at least for Shin and possibly Maria, too.

I really hope they can settle this Hana fight, soon, and I hope they can dig more into Maria's past and why she is the way she is.
