The Librarian of Burned Books
by Brianna Labuskes
There is not a lot of excitement in this book, it took me a while to get into the book. However, the message feels very important given our current political landscape. As my local library faces closing because short sighted people want to ban books on LGBTQ topics, the message of this book rings very true to me. Two of my favorite quotes from this book capture that sentiment so well: “an attack on books, on rationality, on knowledge isn’t a tempest in a teacup, but rather a canary dead in a coal mine “ and “banning books, burning books, blocking books is often used as a way to erase people, a belief system, a culture.”
