Dead Ever After
by Charlaine Harris
LOL. I guess I can't in good conscience give this book a 1 star, since I usually reserve that for books I am literally in mental pain while reading, but.
It was pretty bad.
We all knew that Harris was a COMPLETE SELL OUT when suddenly a few books ago, THE ENTIRE CROWD AT MERLOTTE'S WERE SINGING "BAD THINGS" BY JACE EVERETT IN PERFECT UNISON AND EVERYONE KNEW EVERY WORD. Alright Charlaine, we know your series got picked up to be a TV show. We know. WE KNOW.
But she wrote herself right into a corner with this series, with all the heart falling out of it long ago, with only the residual interest in the (ideas) of the characters keeping people interested. (At least, that was the case with me.) The worst part was that this was just like every other book ever. At least, just like the terrible last handful of books. Someone died, people find out who really killed them. Nothing unique happens. Sookie continues to check her e-mail and pull her hair into ponytails. She continues to have man-drama, and Eric continues his OOC race toward becoming one of the most Completely Ruined Characters In Trashy Lit History.
The book ends just as every other Sookie book has. Nothing unique. Noting to set it apart. Nothing to "resolve" the story. Supposedly, she'd settled down with the man she wants to be with forever (I'll just say that, while we were expecting it, it still felt rushed).
Overall. Meh.
