BOOK REVIEW
"Agnes Grey" by Anne Bronte
"Agnes Grey" was the first novel by Anne Bronte, the least known of the Bronte sisters, published alongside "Wuthering Heights", as the physical book's 3rd Volume, in the year 1849. This novel is the story of the title character Agnes Grey, as she works as a governess in a gentry family outside of the urban center in England. This novel, alongside Anne Bronte's last other novel "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" are both considered underrated due to the author being underrated herself.
MY THOUGHTS:
I wanted to give 3 stars for this novel but I decided to give this novel 4 stars. Like "War and Peace", why did it take me a long time to rate these books I've read nearing a year past? Gladly, I am rating these works now.
Agnes Grey was a lovely yet aloof protagonist who, by fate and by her own choice, is happily married by the end. I'm glad! She did deserve her own closure because I can only imagine her inner struggle for validation and Identity working as a governess and away from her family.
This novel is a novel I couldn't really commend that much myself because of the basic yet bland plot, but this novel does deserve more credit and more praise alongside "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall". I realized that I could read all the novels of Emily and Anne Bronte (3 novels) in the year 2021 so I decided to read all the novels of Emily and Anne Bronte, much I secluded Charlotte Bronte because her novels are relatively longer. I might get into Charlotte Bronte's novels this year.
