It has been a long time since a book has made me cry at the last few chapters. This book was gripping from start to finish. I was captivated by the story and character development. The growth of Robin his experiences and how his perspective changes is a timeless commentary on real world society. It is a must read for everyone but I would say especially those of a colonial background because it really shows you that the rose coloured glasses we wear from our place in history/society are exactly that and we are given a greater perspective of just how life is for those of us without white skin. I genuinely don't usually read historical fiction but Kuang's writing has showed me that a gripping story is really possible from any genre. I ask everyone give this book a solid try and have tissues at hand near the end.
