The Shipping News by Annie Proulx
5.0
I re-read this book this year and I still love it. I had forgotten Annie Proulx's style with the incomplete, staccato sentences. The flow of the dialogue keeps it in the background, which makes it lovely and sparse instead of pretentious. I love the characters of Quoyle and Wavey and the Aunt, and the fickle and cold environment of Newfoundland and the ocean. It's especially nice to read during a Texas summer when it's hard to imagine that cold exists anywhere.
