Fitzgerald is a master at tying the characters to their environments. So much of this novel describes various settings, but he's able to describe them to match the mood of the characters. You know how they're feeling and what their state of mind is before you're told what's going on in their lives. It's pretty great. It's also fairly dense, so it takes a while to get through
