It was a good read! The book wasn't revolutionary in its topic or villain. It benefits from the author revealing the villain early on as it's predictable. The author made the villain as disturbing (an understatement) as possible. She keeps the reader at the edge of their seat by keeping a fast pace and preventing you from thinking the hero is continuously winning. The fast pace also helps you from feeling bored when the book gets repetitive. The ending is great because even at that moment, the author will have your emotions running.
However, some things didn't make sense to me:
Why would the police not find it odd that Jack created a room that could only be opened from the outside? Why would the police immediately not suspect murder instead of suicide, if he was locked in a room which can only be opened and locked from the outside? Why didn't any of the couple's friends immediately think back to Jack saying Grace had made more paintings only for his eyes that were located elsewhere in the house, once details surfaced of the room being covered in paintings?
