Norwegian by Night by Derek B. Miller
3.5

I really enjoyed this book, which uses the story of an old man on the run with a young boy with whom he shares no language or background to explore Jewish identity, belonging, parenthood, compassionate policy for refugees, the aftermath of genocide. But for all the heavy themes, the characters are glib, there are some nearly laugh-aloud moments, and the traditional suspense of such an action-packed novel with multiple threads and players being followed during the same timeframe. There were few slightly long internal monologues but overall a really solid 3.5 stars.
