Waiting on Forever
by Ashley Wilcox
Wow. The author made it her mission to write a book full of insults and prejudices regarding sorority girls. My guess is she must have been burned pretty badly in college along with being absolutely jealous of them.
Leah, the „heroine“, is an insecure nerd. Clueless and innocent is an understatement. But also, she is incredibly mean, spiteful and full of prejudices. Slutshaming seems to be her favourite pasttime. She sees herself as a witty tough ass though. It’s no wonder this girl never had any friends. According to her, it’s because everyone else is a barbie bitch. Well, newsflash girl. It’s not them, it’s you. You’re a judgy asshole. Why would they bother getting to know a mean loner? They say hello and you’re being mean to them. Leah would have been a grade A bully in high school had anyone given her the chance to. Hands down. This way, she only bullies people in her mind.
Leah‘s biggest issue seems to be girls who care about their looks. She turns most of her hateful energy towards any and all sorority girls, and plastic girls that look like a barbie.
One of my favourite quotes in this regard is:
„They obviously didn’t think this out, having a sorority girl handle the money and being expected to make change“
I don’t think I need to comment on this quote any further.
With every girl we meet, Leah judges her solely on first sight, and never gives them a slight chance to change that first impression. Some examples:
When Leah meets Matt‘s friend Summer for the first time, the girl was wearing sneakers, jeans and a band shirt. That meant she was normal and cool.
Some girl in her class simply asks „so, is it true that you’re dating Matthew Jacobs?“. According to Leah, the girl is annoying. We don’t know why though. Just that Leah calls her a stupid obnoxious girl.
Her roomate, Kayla, is a gorgeous blonde woman pledging for a sorority, ergo she is a dumb slutty bitch. The slut comments are strong with this one. Leah constantly complains about Kayla‘s voice, and other things. But when Leah goes to that first mixer, Kayla offered to help her with outfit, makeup, and hair. Leah constantly complains with what Kayla chooses. Yet she is surprised she doesn’t look like a slut when Kayla is done, and obviously never once thanked Kayla for her effort. She even rolls her eyes when Kayla gave her a bit of guy advice, and thinks „when it comes to guys, Kayla is not one that I‘m going to take pointers from“. BITCH, Kayla offered you perfectly fine advice for your situation of having a boyfriend who hasn’t had sex with you yet. Just because you see Kayla as a slut, doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how to hook a guy. THE EXACT OPPOSITE IS THE CASE ACTUALLY.
Leah also has some serious double standards going on.
When her roommate asks her about Matt in a funny, simple way, it’s annoying and ridiculous and tmi and that Kayla has no business knowing anything that’s going on, not even if he’s a good kisser. But when Matt‘s teammate makes a statement about titties while introducing himself, it’s funny because „every girls got em“ and „you‘ve seen one, you‘ve seen them all“. And when she runs into another guy in the bathroom while he’s in his underwear rockin some morning wood, she’s staring at his pretty impressive bulk.
Leah is absolutely territorial when it comes to Matt. She constantly complains about those damn plastic barbie bitches and sluts that are trying to steal Matt. She even goes as far as saying that he will never be attending another mixer or party without her. She nonstop worries about what happened with other girls before she started dating Matt. Even after knowing that she is the first girl that entered Matt‘s bedroom, she’s still worried he is the fuck‘em and leave‘em kind of guy that kicked out girls in the wee morning hours and has no trouble believing that Matt cheated on her with two barbies when she sees them at his door.
But when Matt makes a joke about it not being a good idea to bring Leah around his teammates, because for some reason I really can’t figure out, they like her, she answers: „Eh, they don’t bother me“.
So it’s okay when his friends comment on her, because she’s not interested in them, but girls can’t comment on Matt or they’re sluts even though he isn’t interested either? Got it.
I have absolutely no clue what Matt sees in Leah. Matt seems like a really nice, down to earth athlete. Leah often describes him as perfect. In my opinion, he is a little too perfect, and he’s constantly turning a blind eye to Leah‘s hatefulness.
On the contrary, he seems to think that means she is strong and different. Matt actually says „you don’t take shit from no one“, right after Leah ran out of the room and vomited because Brynn, one of the barbie sorority girls insinuated that she enjoyed some alone time with Matt way before Leah and Matt started seeing each other. Obviously, that means Brynn is a slut. And it’s soooo strong to hear Brynn say that bullshit, turn around crying and vomit.
I could go on and on about Leah‘s meanness, idiocy and hypocrisy. That girl pisses me off like nobody’s business, and she should be damn lucky Matt seems to see those traits of hers as strength.
Lastly, the author managed to annoy me even more in her epilogue. Why is it so hard for people to acknowledge the NFL draft system? Why do they have to say „this team made the best offer“? Why not say „this team drafted in me in that round“? Seriously, I don’t get it.
