Annihilation
by Jeff VanderMeer
I watched the movie of this and I thought I knew what I was going into when I picked up the book.
Lol??? Girl???? Not even close. This is SO much better. I love how clinical and detached this reads, we don’t know anyone’s name, we have no clue what is going on and we never learn, it is atmospheric in a distressingly creepy way. The setting is eerie and the creatures within are fucked up. I appreciate that we get to the end and have zero answers, and a hundred more questions. I don’t want answers from this! Not everything can be explained!
There are some moments in this book that are some of the most gut-wrenching horror I’ve ever read, and I love horror books. The cosmic aspect of it all just made it sooooo much more devastating.
The lighthouse. ☹️
The swamp.
