Journey Under the Midnight Sun
by Keigo Higashino
dark
mysterious
slow-paced
I have read a few of Higashino's novels now, and this was my least favourite. It is a very slow paced, crime / mystery novel that I had high hopes for. However, I found it very predictable and therefore not very engaging. I stuck it out to the end in the hopes of their being a big plot twist that through the story on its head, but there wasn't.
The story is very well written, and decades of stories and interactions are woven together very easily. It was enjoyable in that sense. But the mystery / crime element that I had come for was just not as effective as I would have liked. All of my theories were proved right except one, and when you invest in a 500 + page novel, you want to be wrong more than once really.
Not one of his books that I'd personally recommend.
