adventurous emotional lighthearted medium-paced

Very much just fine! Throughout the book, I wished it was either more cozy or more high stakes, the balance felt slightly off. Like, the main issue is that there is a missing kid, alongside racism and classism and looming war, but the story itself seemed to want to be something quieter. The characters were fun and the world building was quite immersive, but I was bored and confused by the pace. I almost could see this more successful as a series of novellas, where each “trial” on their journey is a fully formed story on the way to a final conclusion. There were many discrete moments that could have had more focus and time to really explore, but ultimately each felt repetitive in such close succession. Unsure! But it was okay, glad it’s over.
