The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

5.0

This book followed a black girl with a love for books and a secret library that was forbidden to have, or else punishable by death. It also followed a pop music loving alien who was very different from those like him. I enjoyed that this book was filled with bookish references and beautiful quotes and songs that went along with the story. The main love interest was especially adorable, and I loved having both of their perspectives throughout the book. This book had a lot of parallels to real world issues. This book was very current and real for something so fictional. It touched me, resonated with me, and I loved every second of reading it. The romance was by far my favorite. It was slow building and really set off after feelings were affirmed. Their talks and relationship growth was just so cute and adorable amidst the crumbling state of earth around them. There is a cliffhanger in this series (But i didn't mind it actually), which hopefully will mean there is a second book in the works. I would re-read this book and recommend it to anyone who loves bookish things, sci-fi and a good wholesome romance.
