The Hidden Prince by Jodi Meadows

It says: "new readers will find a stunning introduction to this rich world and the heart-pounding
fantasy..."

Um, no? I think to properly enjoy this, if you were to, you should have read the first book already (I'm guessing). Ultimately we have no idea who these characters are or why we should care and the novella does not help us care. It really does not help that the story feels incomplete and feels like it comes to an abrupt stop. Were all of the prequels meant to be read together as if an additional short novel? That is not usually how these prequels work.

The writing did not put me off, which was a good thing, but I could not bring myself to care about the characters or what was going on without any context to go on, which the author should have provided.
