I went into this read not quite sure what to expect in the poems and short stories. I was immediately blown away by the beautiful writing and emotive storytelling. Each of these authors shares their own experiences in dealing with racism, sexism, homophobia, mental illness, and many more difficult topics. There was so much more representation of a variety of cultures than I could have expected - many of which I had no personal knowledge of their cultures prior to this book. Part of my heritage is Mexican and that is honestly where my scope of Latinx culture and knowledge stops. Getting to hear about the intricacies of other Latinx cultures and experiences was incredibly eye opening. These stories pulled at my heartstrings and expanded my worldview.
