“If you’re lonely, tell me. If it’s too hard for you, tell me. If you don’t tell me… I’ll never know.”
“I’m fine. How could I be… lonely?”
“You’re not? Because I am. Are you really… not?”
“I… I’ve been… lonely too.”

What a diabolical cliffhanger to end on. I don’t trust the Usubas one bit. As far as I’m concerned, they’re far worse than the Saimoris because unlike those losers, they’re deeply entrenched within these power-wielding bourgeois families and incredibly influential. They sacrificed their own daughter to an abusive nouveau-riche clan for money and only bothered reaching out to their granddaughter now that she’s gonna marry a prominent figure (and possibly unlocking rare latent abilities?). Creepy, shady fuckers.

Screw these people, I’m here for my girl Miyo gaining some semblance of self-esteem. Volume 1 Miyo would’ve never admitted her loneliness to Kiyoka. Baby steps, but steps nonetheless and that makes me happy. I don’t think their last misunderstanding will impact them much, especially with the Usuba nonsense upcoming. I need that creepy cousin and evil grandfather GONE. And Hazuki to find happiness. Her backstory was so sad and it’s genuinely heartbreaking to imagine how difficult it must be for her to be forcibly separated from her son - not to mention navigate the intense judgement and misogyny she’d face as a young divorced woman of her high-crust echelon. She better get her happy ending!!
