This book was decent but way too long. This series could have been much shorter. There were side stories that literally didn’t matter at all. POVs we didn’t need at all. It was incredibly frustrating.
I did enjoy the main storyline and two main characters a lot but even the conflicts they experienced felt drawn out and unlikely after we’ve been building to such powerful characters by this point.
Spoilers ahead!

Things we didn’t need
1) Rissa. At all 😅. We didn’t need a single POV from her to further any part of this story.
2) Further to the above, we didn’t need a single POV from Osrick. Completely pointless. Both these POVs took up way too many pages in these books.
Other things
3) I hated that Slade didn’t even send a freaking message to his crew letting them know he was headed to Annwynn and what happened at Highbell. No explanation or anything for why he missed hitting Ranhold. I’d be pissed if I were everyone else.
4) I thought all the Annwynn stuff was pretty well done and Auren’s growth felt real. I also loved how Slade is so proud of her and supports and encourages her, but he never feels like a simp for her. He’s still his own strong character.
5) I hated that his father was able to keep breaking them in more than one instance. It was a bit repetitive and feels kind of dumb that they don’t have ways to shield themselves from magical attacks in this world.
6) Malinaaaaaaa. Wow I hated her but I cried for her in the end. That was so beautifully done with her ending.
7) What was the resolution with the poems and the 3 queens?! I kept thinking Emonie was going to be the 3rd because we kept getting her POV but no. Was it supposed to be Saira Turley?
I wish I could have given this one more stars. I love Slade so much!!
