No Dream Is Too High: Life Lessons from a Man Who Walked on the Moon by Ken Abraham, Buzz Aldrin

This is a light fun read in which the second man to walk on the moon dispenses advice and illustrates his point with experiences from his life. For example, second comes right after first, he says, and he then describes how he gained a sense of pride that comes from being right after the first man to step onto the lunar surface.

Aldrin encourages his readers to look for opportunities in obstacles, pointing out that his path to the stars, whether the astronomical ones or the celebrity ones as a guest on Dancing With the Stars, was never easy. Always maintain your spirit of adventure, says Aldrin, and to back that up, he describes diving on his 80th birthday, the same day he hitched a ride on a whale shark.

This is a small but lovely memoir from a guy who has explored the cosmos and plummeted to the depth of the ocean of alcoholism. It’s a great gift for a young reader, but most of them seem to oppose the space program and would take precious little interest in the perspective of one of its most vocal supporters. There’s nothing in here that will rock your universe, but you will enjoy seeing the universe through Aldrin’s eyes.
