The Good House by Tananarive Due

I wanted a Halloween read, so I picked The Good House. It had a strong premise complete with a historical perspective surrounding this old house and its extended family; however, overall, the story got repetitive and was longer than was it needed to be. 21 hours in audiobook. Much too long for the genre.

The most important parts to me were Corey, the teenage son’s story. This story was directly related to the spirits aspect of the story, so that was good, but even among Corey’s story, there were aspects of the tale that were retold several times over. Once was enough. It seems as if the author was attempting for a sprawling literary horror novel, but it didn’t quite get there. Not bad, but not great either.
