Did not finish book. Stopped at 40%.

I really tried to read this, I just can't get past the writing style and lack of contractions. I've been trying to read this for like a week and I realized I just keep putting it off. I'll read it, get distracted or try to find an excuse to do something else before trying to come back to it. I really wanted to love it, but I think I'm just not enjoying myself. The premise is so cool, but I just can't get past the style of writing. The MC doesn't like to use contractions, not in dialogue, and not even in the inner monologue. It made it so clunky and awk to read. 
I stopped to look at the pages I am near, and on a spread there is 4 different times when contractions are needed.
