I feel like I’m missing something that other readers are getting with this book. Some of it was funny, but a lot of it felt like it was trying too hard to have shock value, often at the expense of a meaningful message. I didn’t expect some of the twists, but they didn’t hit as hard as they might have if there was less time dedicated to crude jokes and more time spent actually developing characters.
