Sweet Dandelion by Micalea Smeltzer
3.0

Dandelion (or Dani as she prefers to be called) was the victim of one of the most tragic and traumatic events a child can endure: a school shooting. I thought Micalea did a good job of highlighting the trauma and survivors guilt that school shooting survivors can feel and how hard it is to grow past that. I really liked that Dani worked through her trauma with Lachlan but ultimately had to learn how to work through it on her own.

I had such high hopes for this one, and while it was a good and well-written book, I was disappointed. For such a big book, I felt the relationship development was lackluster. By the end, I never thought I got enough of the two together. While I felt a connection with Dani on her own, I did not feel a connection with Lachlan and Dani together. I did enjoy certain aspects of the book, and I think it worked through certain traumas well, but I was left wanting more.
