The Nichan Smile
by C.J. Merwild
I really really loved this book. More than I have any book in a while. I didn't want it to end, and I also need a million more in this series right now. Definitely read the trigger warnings, if they're not your cup of tea then don't read because the author does not shy away from the realities and details of things. I really appreciated that though and in some ways it felt like a breath of fresh air. Trauma wasn't glossed over, but it wasn't thrown in just for the sake of being there.
Everything about this book felt very real, despite the fantastical setting, and there wasn't a single moment of the book I was bored. Were there some clunky sentences or missed edits, sure. But none of it ever pulled me out of the story or made me stop reading. This was an amazing book and I can't wait for more.
