Misogynist, racist, fetishization of agrarian life written by a city dweller who clearly had no idea what rural life is actually like (contrary to the claims of the introduction). Entirely unsurprising that the author was a Nazi supporter. If you want to learn about rural life or frontier life, read Jack London, Willa Cather, and Pearl S. Buck. They all did it better.
Also, for some reason the narrator gave several characters Irish accents. Confusing.
