Lie with Me by Philippe Besson

4.0

OH. MY. GOD. There is so much to unpack.

Chapter 1. 4/5 ⭐️

This was good. Teenage longing, forbidden and frustrated love, homosexuality in the 1980s. It had some really nice moments and great descriptions. The dialogue was a bit lackluster but maybe it was intentional considering Thomas' character?

Chapter 2. 2.5/5 ⭐️

When I was reading this chapter I was struck by the realization of why I don't usually read YA novels. Nevertheless, I continued reading what seemed like a dirt road leading nowhere. The protagonist meets Thomas' son and they talk and really, thats it.

Chapter 3. 5/5 ⭐️

Holy fuck. Holy motherfucker. Oh my god. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful and UNFAIR. All of it. Thomas' death was such a shock and the emotions that came with it through Thomas' son and the protag were CRAZY. Oh my God and the letters this just connects everything so wonderfully.

Overall:
This is two stories merging into one. This is two rooms connected by a hallway. and it is done right and it done wonderfully and about sad gay people. Also super short!!! 9/10
