The Burning Girl
by Claire Messud
I personally love books about female friendships, and the plethora of emotions contained within those experiences. Messud wrote a story that feels utterly realistic, where everything is messy and complicated and ultimately feels a little pointless. Because of the strength of her writing, I found Julia and Cassie's story to be profound and haunting, but it does conclude rather unsatisfactorily in the way that life does.
