The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

5.0

Quite possibly, if not the best book I've read this year certainly in the top 3 and that is some achievement. I loved this from start to finish from the incredible characters to the superb world-building. In some respects world-building seems to mean different things to different people. For me though it is that feeling of actually being part of that world, like sinking through the melting pages of the book and being there. It's being able to smell the myriad smells of the marketplace, both good and bad, imagining the feel of coins in one's hands, the sounds of a vibrant bustling metropolis, the dank dinginess of a cellar, the cold sensation of fear on my skin, the slightly uncomfortable warmth of a tavern complete with the conflicting smells of ale, sweat and fear. All this Rothfuss' world gave me.

I loved this book so much and will be starting the next in the series immediately because I can't bear to leave it just yet.
