The Switch by Beth O'Leary
5.0
lighthearted fast-paced

This is a real sweet and heart warming book. I love the idea of a life swap. Leena a young woman having a work crisis and struggling with the loss of her sister is going to live in the Yorkshire countryside taking up all the responsibility of her grandma, whilst her grandma Eileen is moving to her London flat to give dating apps a try and to help Leena's friends to sort their lives out.
Both these characters are instantly likeable even more so with the vocal narration of Daisy Edgar Jones as Leena Cotton and the ever so wonderful Alison Steadman as Eilleen Cotton her outgoing and vibrant grandma. They really lend a whole lot of heart to both characters as well as them being wonderfully written.
The cast of characters that surround them are also as likeable as them. Fitz, Bea and Martha are marvellous as Leena's friends taking her grandma in and helping her to adjust to life in London and make the most of what London has to offer. The whole village of pensioners back in Yorkshire and Jackson the handsome teacher are a great group of characters. Although Lenna has a bit of a shaky start with most of them she soon wins them all over and finds herself in the process. Arnold was probably my most favourite character though as he and Leena form a friendship and she changes Arnold's life for the better. So much romance and high jinx ensues in both life swaps. It really is a touching story of friendships, family and dealing with the loss of a loved one. Having lost my dad last year I could really relate to a lot of the grief and memories of those loved ones lost in the time after their death. It had me in tears towards the book's end. It filled me with so much joy also that I was bursting with it. It's a really feel good read. Cannot recommend Beth O'Leary's books highly enough.

Another wonderful 5 Lucy Stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
