LOCK ADAM DRIVER THE FUCK UP!

This book is the reason for my most recent book slump, I just couldn’t be bothered to pick it up and read it. In the end, I managed to consume it all in one night because I wanted it to end that much. Upon reflection I can see the plot confusions and overall weak points of the book. It’s way too hyped on tiktok and yes it’s a good book but some things about it are just iffy.

Firstly I adored Adam Carlsen, but Olive was so bland. I couldn’t envision her in my head as her description was that vague. Other than the picture on the cover which still isn’t a good indicator. All we know is she’s ‘short’ in comparison to Adam, she has freckles, and wears the most outrageous Unicorn socks known to man because she’s ‘not like other girls’. She’s a woman in stem who struggles in a predominantly male workspace and that’s about all there is to her character.

ALI HAZELWOOD STOP WITH THIS ADAM DRIVER SHIT.

Secondly I could not get my head behind why they were fake dating and Adam’s years long crush on the girl from the lab bathroom was confusing, why did he develop a crush on her? Never explained. Yes I can see why Adam’s side of the fake dating deal was reasonable as it’s to keep his job, but Olive’s made no sense. If she had communicated with her friend a tiny bit more then she wouldn’t be stuck fake dating the ‘ass’ professor.

CAN WE JUST STOP ENCOURAGING ADAM DRIVER??

Adam’s height. Sorry I need to talk about this…On almost every damn page there was a mention to Adam’s tall height, we get it Olive, he’s a muscular giant and you’re just a short girl. I couldn’t imagine any of their kiss scenes because the height was so off putting. How on earth did she manage to reach him. Olive described many times how much her neck hurts from looking up at him, really?!

GET RID OF ADAM DRIVER.

Olive fell deeply in love extremely quickly, but she always tried to change her mind by mentioning how much of an ‘ass’ he was to people around the lab. Even though she acknowledged the fact that he’s nothing but nice around her (he was incredibly nice) she keeps going back to how he treats others- which is apart of his job.

Now I need to say about the scenario which led to their fake dating scheme. Olive needed a distraction for her friend to believe that she was over her ex, whom Anh (her friend) had a crush on. So Olive grabbed the first guy she saw and kissed him. Which I would say is very unlikely to happen with anyone im a stem position- in an academic setting especially. Very unrealistic.

I loved the grumpy x sunshine elements and Adam’s character as a whole but the miscommunication was just too unbearable for me.
