Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Somewhere in between the bad and great reviews.

Let me start with what I liked about this book, which is the style of the author. It's clean and easy to follow, with a very interesting way of punctuating situations/ atmosphere by writing one-sentence paragraphs. The descriptions are enough, not too much, easy to read, and understandable although there is "science" behind the whole premise.

When it comes to the content, storytelling, this is where the author lost me a few times. Starting off as a thriller, the main character kidnapped by a guy asking weird questions who takes his clothes off just to give him new ones, only so he can drug him. The main character wakes up in a place similar to the hospital finding out he isn't married and doesn't have a child as he knows so. Instead of building on the schizophrenia and paranoia within the main character, building his doubts if what he is certain of is true or not. BUT the author spoils this by writing a completely unnecessary chapter (one more later) from the perspective of the wife that completely spoils the mystery and the paranoia effect. This is where he pissed me off as a reader because what really captivated me in the story was GONE (although he managed that before when the main character jumped from the second floor in a building that is UNDERGROUND on the street???? )
Another long and not so interesting 100 pages follow of the adventures of Jason (the main character) in which the thrill was simply gone, especially knowing that the same point could've been made in less.
The end brought back the thrill, driving us from scene to another toward the goal of the main character. Although I found a few illogical things there, the fast-paced action clouded my doubts.

I', still not sure whether this is a 3 or 4 star read, but I liked it... not more than that.
