I listened to this on audible and it was so horrible I jacked up the reading speed to 2.5X and hoped the speed would help end the pain of a wasted audible credit. I am a big fan of Saramago and while I appreciate the artistry and attention to detail with this, there was nothing in the characters or the stories to keep my attention. Maybe it was the translation (where is Gregory Rabassa when you need him!?). And the narrator was pretty awful.
