Jessie is a teen grieving the loss of her mother from cancer and living in a new home, attending a new school across the country because of her Dad’s remarriage. Her experiences of adjusting, friendship, school, work, and first love create tension above and beyond dealing with loss.
Julie Buxbaum writes story well and had me turning the pages. I liked the mystery and the realistic dialogue between Jessie and her peers and adults. Loved the text conversations that the book is titled for.
This was a quick read but since it was on my kindle I didn’t get to it often. I really wanted to know who SN so I turned the pages quickly. I didn’t love teenagers drinking and having sex (lowered my rating), but I appreciated that Buxbaum realistically portrayed the feelings and choices. The characters and story were strong enough for me to keep reading.
