Walk on the Wild Side by Christine Warren

2.0

A woman discovers she's not quite human in this adult fantasy romance.

I read this book so many years ago. I remember loving it, but, oh times, they are a changing. I did not connect to this story at all during my second read.

Timeline
I think the events in this story take all of three days. Three days for the main characters to meet, fall in love, and learn they are mates. THREE. DAYS. When I was a teenager, I probably thought it was super romantic. Not anymore...

Characters
I actually liked the main characters, Kitty and Marcus. But the short time frame of the story made it really difficult for them to grow as individuals or as a couple. It's hard to believe Kitty is suddenly "OK" with her other status when she's had less than a month to think about it.

Ending
I was not a fan of the ending. It's HEA, but the events leading to it just seem so bizarre.
SpoilerI don't believe for one second Kitty is able to hold her own against experienced pride members. She should have had her ass kicked. Once again, people, Kitty had THREE DAMN DAYS to suddenly be OK with her other status, to learn how to change and fight, and to fall in love with Marcus(!?!?!?!).

I was considering reading some of the other books in this series, but I don't want to spoil my memories. Perhaps I will just fondly remember this series without reading them again.

tl;dr A condensed time frame made it hard for the characters, the plot, or the romance to organically grow.
