Absolutely loved how Riley Sager created such a strong sense of mystery and isolation right from the start. The Bartholomew felt so vivid and unsettling that I could almost feel its walls closing in on me. The first half completely pulled me in. I felt as confused and on edge as Jules, with no idea what was going on, which made it even more intense.
A lot of people thought the ending was far-fetched, but I didn’t. As someone outside the world of the ultra-rich, who’s to say something like this couldn’t happen? It reminded me of Squid Game and the idea of the wealthy hosting secret death games for their own entertainment. No one questioned whether that could be real, so why not this? I actually found the ending thought-provoking; it made me think about classism and how far people might go to protect their privilege.
My only complaint is that there are a few too many cast members. I kept having to pause for 10 seconds just to figure out who a name was referring to, and there were even times I had to use the “find” feature to jog my memory.
