The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
4.0

My first fantasy read in forever and definitely not my last.

This is a cleansing read for me. Everything is well defined, friendships, hardships, character traits… In this, it is a typical plot-driven book. The scaffolding remains the same, things happen all the time but everything remains kind of the same either way. It reminds me a little of the 13 ½ Leben des Käptain Blaubär although this is really more a children's book than YA in that regard.

It is easy to read and easy to please. It’s a comfort read. I like that I can read some and then read something else and pick it up later without losing my footing. The overpowered main char is really great for this kind of book and I enjoy it. However, I don’t like the feeling of genericness. Everything is written like you would expect it to be. And all the stuff with Kvothe completely spacing out as soon as he sees a girl...ough give me a break! And it’s always the fucking same. So this I loathed the most. I think this could have been an even better book by such a wide margin but I still loved it for the easy comforting story-driven narrative. I certainly wouldn’t want to read this all the time but it got me hooked and I'm starting the second book in the series. I feel like this is exactly what I needed right now.
