N.K. Jemisin is a terrific writer and I loved both her Broken Earth trilogy and Great Cities duology. But this bounced right off me, because of the intense focus on romance. In fact, what struck me the most about the book is that it is essentially an "elevated" romantasy book, with all of the usual tropes (fated lovers, enemies to lovers, etc.). I barely found the will to finish it, and I certainly don't intend on carrying on with the trilogy. Sorry, N.K.
