I listened to this for a book club pick.  I liked it, but didn't love it.  The history is fascinating.  It made me want to buy glass beads.  I'm not sure what the time travel element added to the story.  Perhaps, Chevalier wanted to write a history of Venice and she partially succeeds.  I was distracted though by the time jumps and wondered how it worked.  Why did some people die and others not? I felt it got a little preachy on topics of today too, in an obvious way.  It held my attention and was worth the time.
