Having read this right after ‘The Mime Order’, I can see how Samantha Shannon’s writing has continually matured and become what it is today. This packed a bigger punch than the first two books. Despite being action-filled, it was concise and well-paced. That being said, it was still a bit repetitive and far-fetched/contrived in places (I’m honestly amazed that Paige is still alive and the Mime Order is in-tact by the end ). There were also some minor editing errors (random punctuation marks, repeated sentences) which was odd considering I read the revised edition.
Either way, keen to read on! Hoping to see some of the minor characters fleshed out in the next book, like Maria, Eliza, and Ivy (and maybe the return. of Danica? ).
