The Body in the Library by Agatha Christie

4.0

This is the second book Christie wrote featuring Miss Marple. A young girl is found strangled and dumped in the library of the Bantry's home. No one knows who she is. Miss Marple is called in to help as she is a friend of theirs. The body is identified as Ruby Keene, a young girl working at a nearby hotel. There are a number of suspects and, of course, it is Miss Marple who ferrets out the solution.

It's always difficult to describe a Christie mystery without giving too much away. I love how Miss Marple uses the fact that people underestimate her to her advantage. She plays the backseat in this novel as events percolate around her. And despite not being in on all the action, she solves the mystery before the police do - applying her knowledge of human nature gleaned from the people in her little village.

I love stepping into Christie's world. Though her themes are sometimes dated and the social mores can be problematic, everything seems simpler in her books. Especially during our current world climate it feels refreshing to be in a story so different from the life we are currently living. Plus, she weaves a mystery together like nobody's business!
