When I stopped reading this as a motivational/self help book and started reading it as if I was listening to a friend tell me their story, it was much more bearable.
The first 1/3 of the book felt like a 1 star to me. So many sentences that almost felt like they were written blindly using predictive texts. An example:
“I finally stopped avoiding fires long enough to let myself burn, and what I learned was that I am like that burning bush: The fire of pain won't consume me. I can burn and burn and live. I can live on fire. I am fireproof.”
What?????
Anyways, once I switched the lens from which I read it, there were some beautiful parts. If there’s one thing she exceeds in its metaphors!
3 stars because I admire her ability to be this vulnerable, couldn’t be me! I didn’t agree with some of the things she said, but you could tell her heart behind writing this was well intentioned. For that I bumped it up.
