Blue Noon by Scott Westerfeld

3.0

I think the second book is still my favorite, but this was a satisfying conclusion that still managed to develop a couple of the characters in unexpected ways (notably Rex and Jessica). While I love Westerfeld's concepts and think they're astonishingly well-developed, his writing can feel a bit scarce at times. It's perfectly suitable to YA, of course, but he seems to always fall somewhere between effective, brisk minimalism and engrossing detail, never quite falling over to one side or the other. I think this is why I'll always like him as an author but never quite love him to the extent I do other writers.
